Working in partnership
Partnership working is at the core of our approach. It takes a broad range of different organisations, individuals, charities and businesses, landowners and contractors working together to make a difference to the future of peatlands in the South West.
We couldn’t do what we do without the involvement of a wide range of vital partner organisations. Whether financial through match-funding or hosting SWPP staff, granting permissions for work to take place or providing expertise, the collaboration of partners is crucial in the future of restoration of peatland areas across Cornwall, Dartmoor and Exmoor.
The SWPP is a £13 million project delivering peatland restoration in the South West of England. In 2021, the SWPP received £9 million of funding from Natural England’s Nature for Climate Peatland Grant Scheme (NCPGS) for the work for a 4-year project. This funding supports the government’s climate and environment commitments and their focus on restoring extensive areas of the UK’s damaged peatlands.
Alongside NCPGS funding, significant additional funding comes from South West Water, the Duchy of Cornwall, the National Trust, the Environment Agency and Cornwall Council, with support in kind coming from many other vital partners involved in the project. Staff working for the SWPP are hosted by South West Water, Dartmoor National Park Authority, National Trust and Exmoor National Park Authority.
