Free nature & art event, Bodmin Moor

Join Cornwall National Landscape’s Natural Beauty & The Beast project team, in partnership with the South West Peatland Partnership, as well as renowned local artist and naturalist Jennie Hale, for a free observational drawing walk exploring the flora, fauna and incredible bogs of Bodmin Moor.

SWPP peatland restoration works took place at South West Water’s Park Pit, an old china clay works now being restored for nature and water supply, in the spring of 2024. Stone, peat and wood were used to block large areas of peat drainage channels and cuttings. Quickly after works we could see these interventions holding back water, raising the local water table and reducing erosion of the carbon-rich peat. Two years on and peat-forming sphagnum mosses have colonised and spread, willow saplings have established and there is more diversity of wildlife, insect plant species - from bog bean to bog beacons, dragonflies to the insect-eating sundew.

By visiting for the day, you’ll be able to visit this normally closed site, see the restoration works and spend time in nature artistically capturing the small and beautiful species under your feet on these important peatland environments.
